Apple’s update to its budget iPhone will reportedly give Android flagships a run for their money.
Apple is scheduled to host its first “special event” today and mobile fans are ready to hear more about the rumored third-gen iPhone SE. Apple does not share details about upcoming hardware, but rumors, supply chain chatter, historical trends, and analyst reports help paint a picture of what’s to come. Here’s everything we think we know about the iPhone SE 2022. What’s the Name of the Next-Gen iPhone SE? Although Apple tends to be tight-lipped when it comes to any details about its product roadmap and even goes so far as to file its trademarks in Jamaica, one of a handful of countries where it’s all but impossible to access trademark documents without visiting in person (and the office just reopened on January 17, 2022). That said, industry analyst Ross Young claims the phone will be called the iPhone SE+ 5G. We’re not entirely sure about the name since Apple used its iPad naming conventions for the second-generation iPhone. Adding a plus to the mix brings back memories of the iPhone 8 Plus and earlier-model iPhones that had larger displays. (There’s a chance the measurement and weight will change slightly to accommodate the 5G modem and antennas.) While there were some early reports saying Apple would use the iPhone 11’s form factor, Apple analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young say there’s no merit to the rumors. The front of the phone will have a 4.7-inch LCD panel, MacRumors reports. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple bump the display up to 1080p, but details are scant. As with its predecessor, expect the upcoming iPhone SE to have a large bottom bezel and Touch ID button. We expect it will have the same Qi wireless charging as the second-gen iPhone SE, but there’s a chance Apple could add MagSafe to the mix.
