Buffalo shooting victim condemned gun violence, called for change in 2021 letter

A woman killed in Saturday’s racially motivated shooting in Buffalo published a letter condemning gun violence and calling for new firearm regulations last year. Katherine “Kat” Massey, 72, was one of 10 people killed when an 18-year-old gunman opened fire at a Tops supermarket. In a piece she wrote for The Buffalo News in May 2021, Massey expressed her outrage over the fatal shooting of Marcques Robinson, a cousin of Erie County Legislator April Baskin.
“There needs to be extensive federal action/legislation to address all aspects of the issue,” Massey wrote.
