Doctor Who’s new companion has finally emerged from the TARDIS — on live TV, no less. During the BBC’s Children in Need appeal on Nov. 18, 18-year-old actor Millie Gibson revealed that she will step into the role, opposite Ncuti Gatwa’s Time Lord. “I can’t believe it myself,” the Coronation Street star admitted during the telethon’s broadcast, noting that she’s glad to no longer have to keep her casting as Ruby Sunday a secret. “It’s insane. I mean, I’m so honored that I was even considered for an audition. … I just hope I can make you all happy, and, like, fill the boots of the other companions.”
The same day, Gibson issued a statement that echoed those sentiments. “Whilst still being in total disbelief, I am beyond honored to be cast as the Doctor’s companion,” the Brit shared.
