Twitter Workers Sue Over Sudden Mass Layoffs

Twitter is reportedly set to lay off around 3,700 people or nearly half of its workforce on Friday.
Twitter on Thursday evening was hit with a class action lawsuit in a California federal court accusing the company of violating federal and state labor laws by failing to provide its employees with adequate notice before its planned mass layoffs on Friday—according to reports, the move will cut the social media giant’s workforce by half.

The lawsuit accuses Twitter of violating the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act) by failing to give workers the minimum 60 days of notice ahead of a mass layoff.

The plaintiffs include several current Twitter employees who were locked out of their company accounts on Thursday and one who was laid off earlier this week.

The suit urges the court to intervene to prevent Twitter from forcing the laid off employees to sign releases that would prevent them from pursuing litigation against the company on this issue.
