Elon Musk’s laissez-faire approach to content moderation on Twitter appears to have finally hit a wall, with the high-profile banning of Ye (formerly Kanye West) for inciting violence on Twitter. The ban comes after Ye’s appearance on Infowars, in which he praised Adolf Hitler and spewed antisemitic conspiracy theories while wearing a black balaclava.
“You know Twitter is being fair when extremists on far right and far left are simultaneously upset!” Musk tweeted Friday, shortly after Ye’s suspension. Still, hate speech flows largely unfettered on Twitter, with high-profile conspiracy theorists and neo-Nazis coming back into full swing on the platform — emboldened by Musk.
