Amazon to lay off 9,000 more employees: Read CEO Andy Jassy’s memo to staff – ET CIO

In previous layoffs staffers were affected in the company’s retail, devices, recruiting and human resources departments. The latest round will impact Amazon’s cloud computing, human resources, advertising and Twitch livestreaming businesses. The latest job cuts are in addition to the previously announced layoffs where the company reduced 18,000 roles in over three months.
Amazon has announced that it is laying off 9,000 more employees. The latest job cuts are in addition to the previously announced layoffs wherein the company reduced 18,000 jobs. With the latest reduction in workforce, the total number of employees that Amazon will lay off will touch the 27,000 mark. This was a difficult decision, but one that we think is best for the company long term.Let me share some additional context.As part of our annual planning process, leaders across the company work with their teams to decide what investments they want to make for the future, prioritising what matters most to customers and the long-term health of our businesses. For several years leading up to this one, most of our businesses added a significant amount of headcount. This made sense given what was happening in our businesses and the economy as a whole.
