The order was handed down while the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was in the midst of a hearing on the matter.
The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down orders from a lower court that blocked the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline, all but ensuring the contentious natural gas project can be built and start operating by the end of the year.
Construction of the pipeline has emerged as one of the most contentious energy issues facing President Joe Biden, who angered environmentalists and climate advocates by endorsing the approval of the project in the debt ceiling bill.
The order was handed down while the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was in the midst of a hearing on the matter.
“The application to vacate stays presented to The Chief Justice and by him referred to the Court is granted,” the short order states.
