Former President Donald Trump’s ex-lawyer Kenneth Chesebro pleaded not guilty Friday to charges in Fulton County, Georgia for his role in Trump’s efforts to overturn results of the 2020 presidential election in the state, making him the fifth defendant, including Trump, to plead not guilty in the case.Key Facts

Chesebro—who is charged with seven felonies, including racketeering, largely stemming from allegations he helped craft a plot to present fake electors to falsely certify Electoral College results for Trump—waived his right to an arraignment and entered an early plea.

Chesebro’s attorney on Friday also asked Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, who is overseeing the case, to speed up the discovery timeline ahead of Chesebro’s October 23 trial date.

Chesebro’s lawyer Scott Grubman told McAfee that his legal team submitted a hard drive of evidence to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis that her office plans to return on September 15, accusing the DA of attempting to withhold the evidence “as late as possible to gain a tactical advantage in this litigation.
