The Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie premiered Wednesday night at the Grove in Los Angeles—the outdoor mall completely shut down for the event—and featured a surprise appearance from Beyoncé Knowles-Carter in a show of support that comes amid a year full of comparison between the two pop superstars, as they simultaneously perform two of the largest-ever tours in music.
In a blue Oscar de la Renta gown, Swift walked the carpet with Beyoncé in a skintight black catsuit before the showing of the film, a cinematic look at the record-breaking tour that drew more than 70,000 attendees per show on its 40-stop first run—the total tour will have 146 stops on five continents after it resumes in November.
News helicopters circled, reporters crammed into The Grove and thousands of fans crowded on sidewalks and crosswalks ahead of the premiere, Variety reported, which showed the movie in 13 of the AMC’s Grove theaters, where Swift spoke to each crowd individually before the show.
