Kevin McCarthy insists he won’t quit Congress after House speaker ejection

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Friday that he has no plans to resign from Congress and will run for re-election.
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Friday that he has no plans to resign his seat and will run for a 10th term next year. 
McCarthy (R-Calif.), who lost his speakership Tuesday after an unprecedented vote to depose him, was rumored to be considering an early exit from Congress, according to Politico. 
The 58-year-old denied that report, telling KGET 17 News in his hometown of Bakersfield that he will finish out his current term representing California’s 20th Congressional District and seek re-election in 2024. 
McCarthy was first elected to Congress in 2006 and worked his way up the House Republican hierarchy until grabbing the gavel in January.
