White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby announced the pauses — which will start Thursday — in a press conference, saying they would be announced three hours in advance by the Israeli Defense Forces so civilians know when it is safe to relocate, according to NBC News.
Kirby said there would be no military operations in fighting areas in the Northern Gaza Strip during the pauses.
In addition to the pauses, Kirby said Israel agreed to open a second channel for civilians to leave northern Gaza along a coastal road, according to the , joining the other way out along the area’s north-south highway.
