Vaping Among U.S. High School Students Declines—But More Middle Schoolers Are Using Tobacco, Survey Says

E-cigarette use among high school students in the U.S. declined significantly while tobacco use among middle schoolers increased, according to a survey released Thursday, amid an effort by regulators to crack down on popular menthol and other flavored vaping products.Key Facts

About 10% of high school students reported current use of e-cigarettes, a statistically significant decline from the previous year (14.1%), according to a survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Food and Drug Administration.

High school students also reported statistically significant declines in current use of any tobacco products (12.6% from 16.5%) and cigars (1.8% from 2.8%), the survey said.

Middle school students reported statistically significant increases in current use of any tobacco product (6.6%) and multiple tobacco products (2.5%), according to the survey.
