Forked is the wildly entertaining behind-the-scenes story of celebrated chef Susan Feniger’s first solo venture. The film opens with a deep dive into the history of one of the most successful partnerships in the restaurant industry, the sometimes silly, mostly serious team of Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken.
Turning back the clock to an era where women in the professional kitchen were still considered an anomaly, these trailblazers crushed it on all counts. They opened and operated popular restaurants starting in the 1980s with City Cafe, followed later by the groundbreaking Border Grill and many others.
“Women had trouble moving up in the ’70s and ’80s so we opened our own place,” Feniger said in a New York Times story from 2018.
Their star power shined brightly on the early days of the Food Network, as the two appeared on a cooking show called “Too Hot Tamales” from 1995 to 1999. The team have a long list of honors and awards, notably being recognized by Julia Child’s Foundation in 2018.
