Steelers Hope To Get More From Russell Wilson Than The Broncos

The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping quarterback Russell Wilson can lift them to their first playoff win since 2016 after agreeing to a contract with the 13-year veteran.
The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to have found the answer to their quarterback woes.
At least for one year. And on the cheap.
Multiple reports indicate the Steelers will sign free agent quarterback, Russell Wilson. The Broncos told the 13-year veteran last week that he would be released after two seasons with them. He was granted permission to talk with other teams.
Wilson will count just $1.21 million against the Steelers’ salary cap in 2024, the veteran minimum salary. However, he’ll still earn $39 million for the season meaning the Broncos will be responsible for the remaining $38 million.Legal Tampering
While NFL players’ contracts do not expire until 4 p.m. ET Wednesday when the league year officially ends, teams can begin talking to free agents at noon ET Monday in what is called the “legal tampering” period.
However, teams cannot officially sign players until that 52-hour window expires.Kenny Pickett’s Future
Adding Wilson means that Kenny Pickett will move into a backup role. In his two seasons since being the Steelers’ first-round draft pick in 2022, the former University of Pittsburgh standout has yet to show the inconsistency needed to be a winning NFL quarterback.
