FBI Opens Criminal Investigation Into Collapse of Francis Scott Key Bridge

According to a new report, the FBI has initiated a criminal investigation into the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore after a large container ship struck the bridge last month. Among other things, the investigation will attempt to find out if the crew left port knowing that the container ship had problems with its systems.
“Authorities are reviewing the events leading up to the moment that the Dali, a 985-foot Singapore-flagged ship, lost power while leaving the Port of Baltimore and slammed into one of the bridge’s support pillars, said the officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the ongoing probe,” reports the . “One official said that the investigation was being overseen by the U.S. attorney’s office in Maryland. Spokespeople for the FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment, nor did the U.S. attorney’s office in Maryland or the Justice Department.”
“Federal agents today are conducting a court-approved search of the Dali,” a DOJ spokesperson confirmed to ABC News. “We have no further comment at this time.
