Biden Planning New Deportation Protections For 500,000 Undocumented Spouses Of U.S. Citizens Tomorrow

The Biden administration plans to unveil a program Tuesday that will protect undocumented immigrants who are married to U.S. citizens from deportation, according to multiple outlets, paving the way for the largest immigration initiative since the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program—as the administration plans tighter border policies.Key Facts

The program, known as “Parole in Place,” is expected to protect around 500,000 immigrants from deportation, NBC News reported.

Undocumented spouses who have lived and been married in the U.S. for at least a decade will be eligible to apply for the Parole in Place initiative, which will also provide work permits and an easier path to a green card, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Currently, people who have stayed in the U.S. without documentation for a year or more aren’t eligible for legal status unless they leave the country for at least a decade, even if they’re married to a U.
