The release of two more “Shrek” films could push the franchise toward the $2 billion mark.

Comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, who stars as Shrek’s beloved sidekick “Donkey” in one of the most successful film franchises of the 2000s, told Collider on Monday that he has begun working on voiceovers for “Shrek 5” and confirmed his character will be getting a stand-alone movie.Key Facts
Murphy told the online entertainment outlet he started doing voice work for the fifth film in the Shrek franchise “months ago” and that he’ll finish the project this year.
He said he thinks the movie will come out in 2025, though DreamWorks has not formally confirmed a release date.
Murphy also added that, once work is done on “Shrek 5,” he’ll start working on voiceovers for a standalone Donkey movie that will give the character the same treatment as the animated tabby cat Puss in Boots, who originated in the Shrek films and has been the lead character in two spinoff films.
