Simone Biles has a chance in Paris to be the first woman since 1968 to win the Olympic all-around title a second time and just the third woman overall. Biles took home the gold in the all-around competition in Rio in 2016. It was one of four gold medals she won in those Games after also placing first in the vault, floor exercise and team competitions. She missed out on gold in the 2020 Tokyo Games, winning a silver in the team competition and bronze on the balance beam.
The Olympics gymnastics competition begins on Sunday with team qualifying and ends on Monday, Aug. 5. Biles is expected to compete in each individual competition in addition to the all-around and team competitions. In the all-around women’s competition, gymnasts perform on all four events: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise.

For the men, American Frederick Richard, along with teammate Paul Juda, will represent the US in the all-around final. The 20-year-old Richard is from Massachusetts and is a sophomore at the University of Michigan and a TikTok star. There are six men’s events: floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar. Richard’s strongest events are floor exercise, parallel bar and high bar.
