The Israel Defense Forces have confirmed the number of Israeli soldiers killed in the Gaza Strip on Thursday now stands at five.
In one incident an explosive device took the lives of three soldiers, and injured 7 others, four of them seriously. The IDF said in a statement an explosive device in the wall of a building being searched by soldiers was detonated remotely. The explosion occurred in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City.
The three soldiers killed have been named as:
Sgt.-Maj. (Res.) Danil Pechenyuk, 26, of Bat Yam, who served in the 6310th Reconnaissance Battalion in the 16th Brigade.
Sgt.-Maj. (Res.) Nitai Metodi, 23, of Ashkelon, who served in the 6310th Reconnaissance Battalion in the 16th Brigade.
Warrant Officer (Res.) Yaniv Itzhak Oren, 35, of Ein Gedi, who served in the 8119th Battalion in the 16th Brigade.
