The days of square photos might be coming to an end.
Instagram is test-driving a new profile grid layout that abandons the app’s icon squares for rectangles.
In an Instagram story, Adam Mosseri showed off the test of a new vertical grid for profile pages in response to a user asking, “Please can we keep the square grid?!” during an Ask Me Anything session.
According to Mosseri, the square grid was designed back in the day when square images were the only thing you could upload to the app (remember those days?). With the introduction of things like Stories and Reels, Mosseri says that most Instagram uploads are vertical.
