Journey Was ‘Terrified’ To Let ‘Glee’ Use Their Biggest Hit

Journey’s Neal Schon says he was “terrified” to let the TV show Glee use the band’s hit “Don’t Stop Believin’,” though he now sees how it was a great choice.
Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” was a smash long before Ryan Murphy became a Hollywood mogul. The band didn’t need the TV show to turn their single into a hit, but it did help breathe new life into the tune. While the sync is now seen as one of the most inventive and perfectly executed of the last several decades, not everyone was initially thrilled with the usage.
Why was Schon unsure about Glee borrowing the band’s most beloved single? “Because I thought it was a teenybopper show”, the musician said, plainly. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer added that he felt the series was “not so cool for us.”
Of course, Schon’s tune changed when Glee premiered.
