The U.S. Women’s National Team made their biggest comeback as they defeated Germany 1-0 to advance to the Olympic final against Brazil.
After one year since their earliest World Cup exit to Sweden in penalty kicks, the U.S. Women’s National Team made their biggest comeback yet as they defeated Germany 1-0 to advance to the Olympic gold medal match.
The lone goal was scored by Sophia Smith in the 95’ minute to lead the team to the gold medal match, which will also mark Smith’s 24th birthday.
“It’s like the best feeling in the world,” said Sophia Smith after the game. “These last few games have been really challenging, but we just had to grit it out and put our bodies on the line. I’m so proud of every single player on our team and Alyssa came up so big in that last save and I think we’ve all just stepped up and done our role as a team, which is the most special thing.
