Team USA’s Stephen Nedoroscik, the pommel horse specialist who America has come to know and love, claimed a bronze medal inside Bercy Arena Saturday. This marks the first men’s individual medal for Team USA in eight years.
Following the men’s gymnastics team final on Monday, several memes surfaced on social media showing the love for Nedoroscik. He’s been nicknamed: Mr. Pommel horse, pommel horse guy and Clark Kent for his Superman-like performance on his sole event. After waiting throughout the entire competition for his turn on the last event for Team USA, Nedoroscik whipped off his glasses and executed a nearly flawless performance on pommel horse, scoring a 14.866 to help the team secure bronze medal in the team finals.
Nedoroscik is the only member of the U.S. men’s gymnastics team to qualify for an event final. Paul Juda and Fred Richard both qualified for all-around and finished their competition Wednesday. As a result, today marks the last day of competition for the men of Team USA.
Before Nedoroscik’s bronze medal, the last individual medals for Team USA came out of the 2016 Rio Games when Danell Leyva won two silvers on parallel bars and high bar, and Alex Naddour took bronze on pommel horse like Nedoroscik.
