Nintendo will reveal the new Switch console before the end of March 2025. If you can’t wait for the official announcement, check out all the known rumors and leaks about the highly anticipated system.
Nintendo is finally ready to launch the successor to its revolutionary hybrid video game system.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced that the Switch’s replacement will be revealed before the end of March 2025, the end of the current fiscal year. Nintendo is typically tight-lipped about its products until it’s ready to make a full presentation, so it’s unlikely we’ll get much more information until the company is completely ready to unveil the Switch 2.
We can still examine the details that have allegedly been leaked and use those insights to fill in some of the system’s gaps. What’s the New Switch’s Name?
Nintendo has strangely named consoles. In recent years, it released the Wii and then the Wii U. And let’s not forget the DS, 3DS, and New 3DS. So, will the Switch 2 be named Switch 2?
Nintendo’s president referred to the upcoming console as the “successor to Nintendo Switch”, which hints that “Switch” will be part of its name. Don’t be surprised if it’s labeled the New Switch, but Switch 2 and Switch Pro aren’t off the table. When Will Nintendo Announce the Switch 2?
Summer has come and gone and Nintendo hasn’t revealed the system, which leaves us two options: Q4 2024 or Q1 2025. Furukawa has already said it will be announced by the end of March 2025, but that doesn’t preclude it from being unveiled sooner. Sony has already made its big 2024 hardware announcement with the PS5 Pro, leaving Nintendo plenty of room to take the spotlight for the holiday season unless Microsoft has something hidden up its sleeve.
Two major events occur this month where Nintendo might announce the Switch 2. First, Tokyo Game Show at the end of September is the biggest gaming trade show remaining in 2024, and Nintendo could make a big presentation then. The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto is opening a few days before that. It’s just as possible the Switch 2 could make its surprise debut there as a sort of culmination of Nintendo’s history until now.
Just because an announcement at either event is possible doesn’t mean it’s likely. Nintendo plays its hardware launches very close to the vest until it’s ready. The company usually makes big reveals via its Nintendo Direct online presentations instead of unveiling new products at trade shows or other events. There simply aren’t any firm rumors besides vague “industry whispers” offering more details on possible timing. Will the Switch 2 Replace the Current Switch?
The Switch 2 probably won’t be a half-step upgrade like the New Nintendo 3DS.
