A top Apple exec says the 2025 iPhone launch will be its ‘most ambitious’ to date. Here’s what the rumor mill thinks Cupertino has in store for fall 2025.
The iPhone 16 is barely two months old, but mobile watchers are already turning their attention to Apple’s next flagship smartphone, with execs reportedly referring to next-gen iPhones as the “most ambitious in the product’s history.”
Rumors suggest the biggest change in the iPhone 17 lineup will be the elimination of the “Plus” variant in favor of a “Slim” or “Air” model. There’s also chatter about all four models getting a 120Hz ProMotion display and 24MP front-facing cameras.
If you didn’t upgrade to the iPhone 16 or are just curious to learn what Apple has cooking, here’s what we’ve heard about the iPhone 17 from reliable sources so far.iPhone 17: Revised Lineup
Of the four iPhone variants in the most recent iPhone lineups, the Plus model has reportedly fared the worst, as most people appear willing to pay an extra $100 for a Pro model, Bloomberg notes. Enter the iPhone 17 Slim. Multiple reports suggest it will have a 6.6-inch display, a single 48MP rear camera, and a minimum of 8GB RAM to support Apple Intelligence.
The Slim model is part of Apple’s long-term plans to develop “the thinnest and lightest products in their categories across the whole tech industry.” However, Apple might use the “Air” nomenclature instead to align with its existing MacBook Air and iPad Air models.
The other three models are set to retain their names, but the display size for the base and Pro variants might increase from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, according to analyst Jeff Pu. Apple might also use an aluminum case for the iPhone 17, 17 Slim, and 17 Pro and reserve the titanium case for the 17 Pro Max, Pu adds.
