Information about El Centro Hispano launches ‘Know Your Rights’ workshops amid Trump’s deportation plans
President-elect Donald Trump has pledged the largest mass deportation in the nation’s history once he takes office. He has said he would begin that work immediately, and would use the military to carry it out.
His plan has led to many questions and uncertainty from undocumented immigrants, some of whom have contacted nonprofit El Centro Hispano.
“We hope for the best but are going to prepare for the worst”, said Emilia Ismael, El Centro’s Development and Strategic Partnerships Director. “We are preparing for it to be fast and furious.”
Part of that preparation is hosting Know Your Rights workshops, which will begin in early December. Among the difficult conversations that El Centro is having are conversations with mixed mixed-status families — where the children are citizens but the parents are not.
“Families have to understand what could happen to their children if they get taken away.
