Democrats object after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announces he “will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down.”
As the prospect of a partial government shutdown looms and the Senate is poised to vote on a House-passed government-funding measure that would avert a shutdown, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., announced on Thursday that he “will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down.”
He said that while the “bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse.”
The senator’s announcement prompted pushback from some Democrats.
“I cannot underscore enough how incorrect that is”, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said of Schumer’s argument.
