Trump signs order to dismantle Education Department: Here are the impacts on NC universities

President Donald Trump’s executive order to scale back the Department of Education has sparked concern among NC State University students, who fear disruptions in federal aid and research funding.
Uncertainty
looms, as college students shuffle from one class to the next. It comes after
President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday to scale back the U.S. Department of Education.
At North Carolina State University, students particularly noted worries about the continuity of
their federal aid packages and some research programming.
“[Federal
aid] is pretty important for me because I am from a single-mom family,” Timi Ogunleye
told WRAL News. “I’m at state for a specific program that they don’t have in many
other colleges in America, so I would prefer that I would hopefully get to stay
here.”
“We are a
research institution … hopefully, cuts don’t affect that,” another student Chase Edenfield
said.
“I think it’s
disappointing, especially for professors, but I, firsthand, see a lot of the
work they put in,” student Katie Milton said.
