Although the Switch 2 and its launch titles will not arrive until June 5, a speedrunner has already beaten a notable game from the opening lineup.
During the April 27 Nintendo Switch 2 Experience event in Tokyo, a speedrunner beat the upcoming Switch 2 Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild within minutes. The Breath of the Wild speedrun happened before both the Switch 2 and its launch games were released, making the quick clearance of the Switch 2 Edition the first of its kind.
Originally released in March 2017, Breath of the Wild bridged the gap between the outgoing Wii U console and the fledgling Switch as a cross-generation title. Breath of the Wild proved to be an overwhelming success for Nintendo, as the company later developed DLC for the game along with its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom. During the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct episode on April 2, both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were confirmed to receive Switch 2 enhanced versions that will also be given to Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack members as a perk.
