Mainstream media misrepresented president’s ‘animals’ remark last week
A White House press release concerning the violent transnational gang MS-13 labels members of the group “animals,” a week after President Trump sparked a mainstream media controversy by using the term.
“What you need to know about the violent animals of MS–13,” reads the press release’s header.
“Too many innocent Americans have fallen victim to the unthinkable violence of MS-13’s animals,” says the missive posted to the White House website Monday.
The document goes on to detail several brutal murders, beheadings and beatings of Americans by MS-13 members in states such as New York, Maryland and Texas.
“President Trump’s entire Administration is working tirelessly to bring these violent animals to justice,” concludes the press release, which refers to MS-13 as “animals” eight times.
The message comes days after numerous mainstream media publications took out-of-context comments made by the president when he addressed a sheriff’s question about MS-13.
“We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in — and we’re stopping a lot of them — but we’re taking people out of the country. You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people. These are animals,” the president told Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims.
The Associated Press also issued a retraction and deleted a tweet saying they made an error because “it wasn’t made clear that he was speaking after a comment about gang members.”
MS-13 membership soared during the Obama-era border influx, which saw huge crowds of people from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, as well as other nations, flood the US.
