Before she won the Democratic primary for Georgia’s gubernatorial race on Tuesday — she was an award-winning romance novelist who crafted her stories with lust, love and suspense.
Stacey Abrams, who is vying to be the state’s first black female governor, has written several novels — including “Secrets and Lies,” “Deception,” and “Hidden Sins” under Avon Romance, an imprint of HarperCollins.
Abrams — who served as Georgia House Majority Leader — has written her novels under her pen name, Selena Montgomery .
Her biography says she’s sold over 100,000 copies. She wrote her first novel, ” Rules of Engagement,” about an intelligence operative who falls for her partner while investigating a terrorist group — during her third year at Yale Law School.
“I wanted to write a book before I graduated,” she told the website Super Lawyers. “I wanted to write a spy novel with a woman as the protagonist.”
Abrams told the website ghost stories her father would tell her and her siblings inspired her writing – which earned her the “Best New Author” award from Romance In Color.
She made history when she became the first woman Democratic nominee for governor. Her next stop is the November election.
“You did it. #TeamAbrams just won our primary election, and this victory belongs to you,” Abrams tweeted to her supporters.
