Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Neil Diamond released his live version of “America,” just in time for the 4th of July holiday in the United States.
The iconic singer-songwriter dedicated to performance, which was filmed live at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, to his grandmother who made the journey from Kiev almost a century ago. “America” is also featured on his upcoming Hot August Night III concert video and CD multi-disc set, which will be released on August 17,2018.
“That little girl was my grandmother. She and her daughter, Rose, inspired me to achieve everything that I have achieved in my life,” he said. “Her courage will never be forgotten. It sings in every song I sing. This one is for her,” Diamond added, and he immediately a bold and brave rendition of “America.”
There was a feeling of nostalgia and patriotism in the venue. His vocals were expressive, harking and heartfelt. Backed by a whole live orchestra, they elevated this classic hit to a higher level; moreover, Diamond is a true song stylist.
