With the World Cup in full swing, there’s still time to upgrade your TV and get some 4K Ultra HD soccer action going on. There may well be the deal to do just that this weekend, with TCL’s 2018 55-inch 4K Ultra HD Roku TV getting a more than tempting cut that brings it down by over a quarter of the usual price.
TCL might not be as familiar a name as some in the TV world, but the company has carved a reputation for itself in recent years when it comes to quality and value. In the case of this 6-Series set, it’s the latest 2018 model complete with TCL’s own NBP Photon screen technology. Adding to that, there’s a full Roku 4K streaming system built in as well.
It’s currently being offered for $584.99, a 27-percent saving off the usual price. It’s one of the lowest deals we’ve seen for this particular model, the TCL 55R617. Beyond the price, though, there’s a lot more to like.
Three HDMI 2.0 inputs, a USB port, and ethernet are included, together with RF, composite, and an optical audio output. The 55-inch 4K Ultra HD display supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision HDR, with a 120 Hz CMI refresh rate. TCL throws in a microphone-enabled remote control, too, so you can search across different streaming platforms by voice.
While there have been no shortage of streaming TV devices and platforms in recent years, Roku’s has retained a reputation for cross-compatibility. Since the company doesn’t have a streaming service of its own to pitch – unlike, say, Apple TV, Google’s Chromecast, or Amazon’s Fire TV – it has focused instead on building universal search that works across as many services as possible.
The result is a user-experience that keeps owners coming back for more. Rather than having a separate Roku box plugged into your TV, however, TCL’s 4K Ultra HD set bakes the hardware inside. That makes for a more convenient setup, fewer wires, and an HDMI port left free for your console, Blu-ray player, or cable box.
Indeed, the only real downside to the 2018 model was the price. That’s something Amazon has taken care of, at least for the time being. As always, there’s no saying exactly when the supplies will run out and the deal will end.
