Clementine, now protecting a school-age A. J., begins the last season of her remarkable journey in Telltale’s adaptation of The Walking Dead.
The final season of Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead will premiere in August and with it we will say goodbye to Clementine, one of the most memorable video game characters of the past two console generations, if not all time.
For The Walking Dead fans, Telltale Games yesterday published a video showcasing the first 15 minutes of the final season, setting up this story and demonstrating the new gameplay elements it will introduce. It’s still a very narrative-driven tale, but notice in that first sequence that combat is a little more open-ended, as opposed to a panic event where only one button press or direction-push resolves the outcome. Clementine also gathers items in the world which appear to have modification or crafting purposes.
Ultimately, we see what Clementine has become, from a scared child asked for a mercy many adults could barely show, to a young girl with wide-open eyes and a healthy, survivalist distrust of the world, to a woman passing on the will to live and the means of doing so to her own protégé, among the ruins of a violent world gone mad.
The Walking Dead: The Final Season launches Aug. 14 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, with a version for Nintendo Switch planned later. The full four-episode season will cost $19.99. Pre-orders will gain access to The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series Collection which includes all episodes in the preceding three seasons, plus The Walking Dead: Michonne and The Walking Dead: 400 Days.
