Michelle Obama felt like she “failed” when she suffered a miscarriage 20 years ago and revealed that she conceived her two daughters through IVF.
The former first lady opened up about her fertility struggles in a new interview that was teased Friday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
“I felt like I failed because I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them,” Obama said in the special which will run Sunday. ”We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken.”
The 54-year-old mom underwent in vitro fertilization treatments to become pregnant with daughters Sasha and Malia, now 17 and 20.
“I realized that as I was 34 or 35. We had to do IVF,” she said, adding that she felt “lost and alone” during her struggles.
Obama’s sit-down comes ahead of her memoir “ Becoming,” which hits shelves Tuesday and includes details about growing up in Chicago, facing racism while in the White House and becoming the country’s first black first lady.
She also touches on marital problems when her hubby, former President Barack Obama, kicked off his political career.

She accused Trump of “stalk[ing]” Clinton during an election debate by following her around the stage, standing near her and “trying to diminish her presence.”
She also recalled how her body “buzzed with fury” after watching the now-infamous “Access Hollywood” tape — in which Trump brags about grabbing women “by the p–y” — and how she tried to “block it all out” when Trump won the election.
Trump’s “birther” campaign against her presidential husband also gets a mention. Michelle Obama said the tirade was bigoted and “deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks.”
For years, the billionaire real-estate magnate has suggested Barack Obama was foreign-born — even though he was born in Hawaii.
