HTC has announced that consumers will soon be able to purchase its blockchain-based smartphone Exodus 1 in U. S. dollars and other non-crypto “Fiat” currencies around the world.
Starting some time in March, anyone will be able to buy the Exodus 1 for $699 or their local currency equivalent.
By way of a quick recap, Project Exodus is HTC’s attempt to create a smartphone that is built for the decentralized web — it hopes that by embracing the blockchain, it can appeal to the security-conscious through offering better data protection and safer mobile transactions.
The Taiwanese tech company announced the early-access version of its blockchain phone back in October, however the big catch was that you could only buy it with Bitcoin or Ethereum, costing at the time 0.15 BTC or 4.78 ETH respectively (roughly the equivalent of $960 back then). The device didn’t actually start shipping until mid-January, however.
