Why you can trust Pocket-lint (Pocket-lint) – Google has confirmed it is preparing to launch the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. You can read all the rumours for the Pixel 6 separately, but here we are focusing on the confirmed details and the speculation surrounding the larger device, the Pixel 6 Pro. Release date and price 19 October 2021 launch event Likely flagship price Google will be holding an event on 19 October 2021 where it will be unveiling the new Pixel 6 models, with the regular and Pixel 6 Pro models on the roster. #Pixel6, the new Google Phone. The Pixel 5 meanwhile, was targeted at the mid-range in terms of price. It’s not currently clear what Google will do in terms of price this year, though it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Pixel 6 Pro sitting at flagship prices. Rumour suggests the Pixel 6 Pro is said to cost around €899, which is around £770 in the UK and around $1065 in the US. Design Prominent horizontal camera housing Triple camera Punch hole front camera Bold colour options Google released some official images of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro from the rear, with the design confirming several leaked renders and showing quite a big departure from previous Pixel devices. The 6 Pro will follow a similar design to the Pixel 6 but feature three lenses on the rear compared to two. Google There is a large, narrow protruding camera housing that spans the width of the phone, separating two colours and Google has said the 6 Pro will have a “light polished aluminium finish”. It’s shown in the images in three colour options, comprising a yellow and light orange, white and grey and black and dark grey. Official images also reveal the front of the device, with a punch hole front camera centralised at the top of the display. The screen appears to be slightly curved at the edges. It is also said to feature an under display fingerprint sensor, which makes sense given the physical sensor is no longer on the rear. It’s expected to offer an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. @OnLeaks x Digit.in Display 6.7-inch LTPO display Curved screen Quad HD+,10-120Hz Under-display fingerprint sensor The Google Pixel 6 Pro is expected to have a 6.7-inch display – as listed by Carphone Warehouse before being removed – making it larger than the Pixel 5 and larger than the Pixel 4 XL, which had a 6.3-inch display. We’d expect to see a Quad HD+ resolution on the Pixel 6 Pro, as well as a 120Hz refresh rate, enabling it to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy 21 Ultra and the OnePlus 9 Pro. While nothing is officially confirmed as yet, the resolution and faster refresh rate have leaked in rumours, with the 120Hz display said to be called Smooth Display and the panel said to be 3120 x 1400 pixels. The Smooth Display is expected to offer a variable refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz. As mentioned above, an under-display fingerprint sensor is claimed for the Pixel 6 Pro and the display will be slightly curved at the edges. Hardware and specs Google Tensor chip UWB technology 5G connectivity The Google Pixel 6 Pro will have the company’s own system-on-chip, known as Tensor – read more about it here. The chip has a new Titan M2 security module, plus it’s been designed to ensure that all the artificial intelligence and machine learning applications could run on it – from computational photography to real time translation. The Carphone Warehouse leak suggests the Google Tensor chip will offer 80 per cent faster performance compared to the Pixel 5 and its Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip, giving us an idea of where it sits in terms of power. Other hardware rumours suggest the Pro will have 12GB of RAM, as well as storage options of 128GB,256GB and 512GB. It’s also said to have a 5000mAh battery. It’s also thought that the Pixel 6 Pro will support 23W wireless charging, thanks to the leak of a new higher-powered charging stand, and there’s talk of 30W wired charging support too. Rumours also claim the device will support reverse wireless charging which it will call Battery Share. It’s expected that the Pixel 6 Pro will be a 5G device and feature ultra-wideband technology. Cameras Triple camera 4K front camera? Night Sight The Pixel 6 Pro will have a triple rear camera with a 4x optical telephoto lens. There have been no more official details revealed but there have been some substantial rumours on the camera front, giving us a good idea as to what to expect. There’s expected to be a 50-megapixel main camera, coupled with a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and an 48-megapixel telephoto lens.
