L.A. wipes out early 10-0 deficit to win 28-19 in the clash of quarterbacks traded for each other.
INGLEWOOD — Jared Goff returned to SoFi Stadium with the Detroit Lions on Sunday with a chance to live down the perception that Matthew Stafford and the Rams won their blockbuster trade last winter. Stafford and the Rams won the game too. In a story arc familiar to followers of Goff’s career in L.A., he had a great start but a sad finish, allowing the Rams to come from 10 points behind to win 28-19 in front of 70,540 fans at SoFi Stadium. Goff, who had many good moments in L.A., added another one on the Lions’ first possession by connecting on a short pass that running back D’Andre Swift turned into a 63-yard touchdown. Stafford, who spent 12 personally prolific but ultimately frustrating years in Detroit, brought the Rams back to take the lead on a 5-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp with 13:59 to play. The Lions’ chance of winning effectively ended when Goff was hit by Aaron Donald as he threw a pass into the end zone and it was intercepted by Jalen Ramsey with less than five minutes on the clock. Matt Gay added a 47-yard field goal with 58 seconds left to secure the Rams’ win.
