Google’s Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro were released in October 2021. They represent Google’s foray into the premium phone market, and their price tag will reflect that. But a high price comes with luxury features. The newest Pixel is quite a redesign. The back features a full camera bar, which Google says was necessary to contain the lenses and sensors of their new cameras. The Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch FHD OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, and the 6 Pro has a 6.7-inch QHD+ OLED with a 120Hz low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display. Google is building its own processor for the Pixel 6 and calling it Google Tensor. Google hyped up Tensor as a unique processor that leans into A.I. and machine learning capabilities. Google has enough confidence in the chip that they plan five years of updates for the Pixel 6. The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro began shipping in late October 2021. Google’s fifth-generation phone, the Pixel 5 company took a different approach than many other Android flagship makers. For this release, there was only one model: the Pixel 5 — no Pixel 5 XL,5 Plus,5 Ultra,5 Super, or anything else not as flashy or as “premium-feeling” as other flagships we’ve seen. The flip side of that coin is that the Pixel 5, which started at $699, was not quite as expensive as the then-current devices like the Galaxy S20 or iPhone 12 Pro. In fact, with its rounded edges and flush-sitting camera module, you’d be forgiven for confusing the Pixel 5 for the Pixel 4a at first glance. The Pixel 5 retains the excellent camera modules that Google’s phones are known for (along with some new upgrades like an ultrawide lens), and it’s a pretty handy size with a 6-inch edge-to-edge display that’s easy on the eyes.
