Vice President Kamala Harris would put a Republican in her Cabinet, if she’s elected, in an effort to represent “all Americans,” she said in a highly anticipated interview with CNN airing Thursday night.Key Facts

Harris told CNN’s Dana Bash she thinks having a Republican Cabinet member “would be to the benefit of the American public,” adding she has spent her career “inviting diversity of opinion.”

“It’s important to have people at the table when some of the most important decisions are being made that have different views, different experiences,” Harris said, according to a network preview of the interview, which will air in full Thursday night at 9 p.m. EDT on CNN.

Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump did not appoint Cabinet members from the other side of the aisle, but it’s not uncommon for a president to appoint a Cabinet member from another party—George W.
