The 77-year-old, who is blind in one eye and has poor vision in the other, spoke of his health issues at a gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada
Elton John has revealed at a gala performance of his new musical The Devil Wears Prada, for which he wrote the lyrics, that he is physically unable to see the show, due to ongoing problems with his eyesight.
Speaking on stage the 77-year-old singer thanked his husband David Furnish, “who has been my rock”.
“I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight. So it’s hard for me to see it. But I love to hear it and boy it sounded good tonight,” he added.
In September, John revealed that a severe eye infection he contracted in July while in France had left him blind in his right eye and with “only limited vision” in his left.
“I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,” he wrote in a statement shared on social media.
