Emily is not expected to impact Louisiana.
Tropical Storm Emily formed Monday morning (July 31) in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Emily, currently off the coast of west-central Florida, is expected to move inland sometime Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Emily, the fifth named storm of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season, is not expected to impact Louisiana.
The National Hurricane Center said Emily’s maximum sustained winds increased Monday morning to near 45 miles per hour with stronger gusts of wind. The storm is expected to weaken into a tropical depression as it moves across central Florida Monday night.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for a portion of Florida’s west coast, from Anclote River to Bonita Beach. The storm is expected to bring rain and wind, dropping between 2 and 4 inches of rain along the west coast of central Florida.
As of Monday morning, Emily was located about 45 miles west-southwest of Tampa, Fla. The storm was moving east at 8 miles per hour.
The center of the storm is expected to move inland later Monday, go through central Florida overnight, and then move offshore the coast of east-central Florida by early Tuesday.
