Glittery cases were sold by major retailers, including Victoria’s Secret; parent company now offering full refunds
A number of glitter cases filled with an unnamed liquid is causing all kinds of skin irritations, burns, and blisters, according to a warning issued by the parent company, with a global recall now under way.
MixBin says customers should stop using the cases immediately, as it discovered that a possible crack that would allow the liquid to come in contact with the skin could lead to skin ailments, though there are no specifics as to what liquid it used or how to treat the injuries. Users with skin injuries should see a doctor ASAP.
At least 24 cases of skin irritation have already been reported and the Consumer Product Safety Commission says 19 of them took place in the United States only. What’s worse is that one person suffered permanent scarring following a chemical burn after the glitter case experienced a crack and the liquid reached the skin, while another female customer says she suffered burns on several parts of the body, including neck, leg, chest, face, and hands.
The cases were being sold in a number of well-known stores in the United States and worldwide, including Amazon, Henri Bendel, Tory Burch, Victoria’s Secret and Nordstrom Rack.
MixBin says it’ ll issue refunds for all customers and provides a list of cases that are impacted by the recall, with the CPSC also publishing a similar list for buyers in the US .
“MixBin Electronics is recalling certain styles of decorative liquid glitter iPhone cases. The cases contain liquid and glitter that are floating in the plastic case. The cases are being recalled due to the risk of skin irritation, blisters or burns if the liquid contained in the phone case leaks and comes into contact with the skin due to breakage or cracking of the case, ” the warning issued by the parent company reads.
Customers who want to be refunded need to register here, and the company will ask for a photo of the affected case to be able to issue a payment.
