Apple’s iPhone X appears to outperform the Galaxy Note 8 in benchmarking tests
AppleInsider has published a video showing the iPhone X going head-to-head with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 in benchmark testing in a bid to see which has the better hardware performance.
” The truth is, both devices are more than powerful enough for our daily needs, but since we got our hands on both of them, AppleInsider decided to run some benchmarks to compare the two devices,” the publication said.
The report goes on to outline the differences in Apple’s and Samsung’s hardware architecture. It notes that Apple’s A11 Bionic processor is a six-core setup with two high-performance cores and four efficiency cores, plus a triple-core GPU and 3GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the Samsung Exynos SoC is an octa-core setup with four high-performance cores and four efficienct cores, but it also has 6GB of RAM and a higher-power GPU.
It’s also noted that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8’s much larger high-resolution display is going to be more taxing on any given CPU setup, and that an abundance of extra cores is not necessarily a huge advantage given that most apps are only written to take advantage of one or two cores at most. Developers are still playing catch-up when it comes to multi-core code.
The Antutu results for both phones show the iPhone X performance is around 31% quicker, while in Basemark OS 2 it doesn’t have such a wide lead with performance being only 17% faster. 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme had both phone’s scoring very closely to each other in terms of performance. In Geekbench 4 the iPhone X more than doubled the Galaxy Note 8’s score in both single and multi-core tests.
Long story short, AppleInsider’s testing concluded the iPhone X far outpaces the Galaxy Note 8 when it comes to performance.
