Campaign promise: Kept.
Since before the beginning of his campaign, President Donald Trump has been promoting the idea of saying “merry Christmas” over any number of politically correct alternatives:
7 of 10 Americans prefer ‘Merry Christmas’ over ‘Happy Holidays’ http://t.co/Xjimd3KU No surprise.

“ @teresayarbor: @realDonaldTrump love that you say #MerryChristmas, not just Happy Holidays!”
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 26,2014
And throughout his campaign, he made one very simple promise:
“ @JenniferJJacobs: Trump: ”Protect the 2nd amendment… And by the way we’re going to be saying Merry Christmas again.“ Iowa crowd LOVES it.”

On Wednesday, he spoke in Missouri about tax reform — but he kicked off his remarks with the fulfillment of that promise:

On Thursday, as Americans gathered in Washington, D. C., for the National Tree Lighting, Trump addressed the crowd with a very simple message:
“For Christians, this is a holy season — the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The Christmas story begins 2,000 years ago with a mother, a father, their baby Son, and the most extraordinary gift of all: the gift of God’s love for all of humanity.”
