A Paladins Battle Royale mode is in the making, making it the second game to try and copy PUBG in order to capitalize on the mode’s popularity.
A new Paladins Battle Royale mode has once again followed the leader in the battle royale game type that was popularized by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The first-person online hero shooter will be creating a hundred-person battle royale mode, along with releasing a new hero and a new content update this month.
This makes Paladins the second multiplayer game that has been copying PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds by adding in a battle royale mode where players must hunt down 100 other players to be the last one standing, gathering loot and trying to avoid getting outside of a steadily shrinking circle. The last one to do it was Fortnite, which was supposed to be a game about building structures to survive hordes of zombies.
Fortnite’s battle royale mode has since become much more popular than the original game, to the point that the developers made it so that players could download it for free to play without having to buy the original Fortnite game.
Whether the Paladins Battle Royale mode will have the same sort of popularity as Fortnite’s own battle royale mode remains to be seen; while Fortnite might have gotten lucky (especially given the backlash from Bluehole and Battlegrounds fans after they announced it), Paladins doing the same thing might get a similar reaction.
While Fortnite’s own battle royale mode was fairly well-constructed, the Paladins Battle Royale mode needs to both work very well and be balanced properly. The game’s developers have said that the mode was always intended to be a team effort, with players using the abilities of their heroes to claim victory, while also gathering loot from around various bases and finding airdrops that contain loot.
Either way, we don’t necessarily have a date for when the Paladins Battle Royale mode will be releasing, but it will likely come out sometime in the next few weeks, either with the new content update or sometime before.
