The USA Network drama was renewed for an eighth season, but Patrick J. Adams announced Tuesday that he will leave at the end of the seventh season.
“The last 7 years have been life-changing. And playing a character that so many people all over the world have connected with has been one of the great honors of my life,” the 36-year-old actor, who was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2012, said on Twitter.
“Together we grew this misdirected brilliant pothead into a confident and capable man seeing all of his wildest dreams come true. Thank you for the wild ride. It’s one I will never forget. ‘Suits’ still very much remains and I look forward to seeing how it all unfolds.”

Adams’ exit comes just two months after co-star Meghan Markle announced that she also would not be returning to “Suits” after marrying Prince Harry in May.
Creator Aaron Korsch praised the two departing stars, who both joined the show at its start in 2011.
“I would like to thank Patrick and Meghan for their extraordinary contributions over the last seven years. Not only have they been outstanding in their roles as Mike and Rachel, they are also superb human beings who will always be beloved members of the Suits family, and we wish them well in their days to come,” he said in a statement.
Dule Hill (“West Wing”) has been promoted to a series regular for the eighth season, while Gabriel Macht, Rick Hoffman and Sarah Rafferty are all set to return.
