President Trump on Saturday kept up his twitter slams at Andrew McCabe, the fired former deputy director of the FBI, and other federal employees who have opposed him.
“As the House Intelligence Committee has concluded, there was no collusion between Russia and the Trump Campaign,” Trump posted at 1:11 pm. “As many are now finding out, however, there was tremendous leaking, lying and corruption at the highest levels of the FBI, Justice & State. #DrainTheSwamp”
Minutes later, he returned to the theme and bashed McCabe some more.
“The Fake News is beside themselves that McCabe was caught, called out and fired,” Turmp wrote at 1:34 pm. “How many hundreds of thousands of dollars was given to wife’s campaign by Crooked H friend, Terry M, who was also under investigation? How many lies? How many leaks? Comey knew it all, and much more!”
For those who’ve lost track of the cast of characters:
“Crooked H” is a reference to Hillary Clinton.
“Terry M” is Terry McAuliffe, who raised money for President Bill Clinton’s campaign, served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and governor of Virginia from 2014 to 2018.
“Wife’s campaign” is a reference to the 2015 Virginia state Senate campaign of McCabe’s wife Jill, a pediatrician. Jill McCabe lost the race even though her campaign got $500,000 in money from Virginia’s Democratic Party.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired Andrew McCabe late Friday – just two days before his planned retirement – for allegedly lying under oath to department investigators and for leaking to the news media.
Trump hailed the news of McCabe’s removal as “a great day for Democracy” in an early-morning Saturday tweet.
