Windows Defender can outclass competition, it adds
In a post focused on how powerful Windows Defender can be in the enterprise, Brad Anderson, Corporate Vice President, Enterprise Mobility and Security, says no less than 18 percent of Windows 7 and Windows 8 devices run the company’s antivirus solution.
While this might not seem a lot at first glance, it’s worth knowing that Windows 7 does not come with this security solution pre-installed, so users opt for Windows Defender and not for a third-party antivirus. Furthermore, more than 50 percent of Windows 10 devices are said to be using Windows Defender, though in this case this score makes more sense given it’s offered pre-installed.
“Our antivirus capabilities are a fantastic solution! The test results above really speak for themselves. With five months of top scores that beat some of our biggest competitors, you can be confident that our solution can protect you from the most advanced threats,” Anderson explains.
Discussing enterprise capabilities, Anderson emphasizes that Windows Defender is easier to use and also substantially cheaper than third-party solutions, especially because antivirus capabilities are built directly into the operating system.
Highlighting Windows Defender’s performance in the most recent antivirus tests, the Microsoft executive goes on to explain that sticking with this security solution means no compatibility issues would be experienced when a major operating system update is released.
“You don’t need to wait for a 3rd party to certify and support it; instead, you have full support and compatibility on day one. This means that new releases of Windows and all the latest security technologies can be deployed faster. This allows you to get current, stay current, and be more secure,” he says.
Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Windows Defender is always number one. Recent antivirus awards offered by AV-TEST crowned Bitdefender, Kaspersky, and Symantec as the top security vendors worldwide, thanks to the performance of their security products throughout 2017.
