Aaron Greenberg of Microsoft takes to Twitter to reveal the release month for the Miramar desert map in the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
While the PC version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds seems to get all the attention, the Xbox One version is slowly catching up to it, content-wise. In fact, one of the biggest content updates for the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is right around the corner, according to Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg.
Greenberg took to Twitter to confirm that the Miramar desert map would be coming to the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in May. Greenberg didn’t provide an exact date in May, but one should come within the next few weeks. In the meantime, some fans may be wondering if the release of the Miramar map will also signal the game’s exit from early access.
After all, when the PC version of PUBG received the Miramar desert map back in December, it also marked the game’s official launch. And while the Xbox One version is still rough around the edges in some regards, it has come a long way since its initial early access release, with much smoother gameplay, greatly improved visual quality, and other improvements.
PUBG fans looking for more content will be excited that Miramar is making its way to Xbox One, but some may not be as thrilled. There has been some controversy about the map, with some fans disliking it so much that they have gone to lengths to remove it from the map rotation. Perhaps the Xbox One version of PUBG will avoid similar controversy by allowing players to choose between the original map or the desert map when they jump into a game, but that’s just speculation at this time.
Meanwhile, the Miramar desert map isn’t the only map on the horizon for PUBG fans to look forward to. A smaller, jungle-based map called Savage entered testing last week on PC, and offers quicker games and more close-quarters combat situations than the other, larger maps in the game. However, since that map is still being tested on PC, Xbox One fans shouldn’t expect to see it come to console for quite some time.
While Savage may still be a ways off, the release of the Miramar desert map in the Xbox One version of PUBG is still significant, and goes a long way in bringing the game closer to its PC counterpart. Whether or not we ever get to a point where the Xbox One version of the game is on par with PC in terms of content remains to be seen, but we’re getting closer to that point.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on PC, through early access on Xbox One, and on Android and iOS mobile devices.
